Reflection: What inspired me is the poses that Yousuf used for his photos. I tried to recreate that with my brother when taking pictures of him. I also tried to use different angles and lighting to see what worked and what didn't. What also inspired me was that in some of his photos often times the subject was not looking at the camera but somewhere else and I also tried to do that when taking my photos. I tried using my dogs as well because i wanted to see if it could work and I didn't have to convince them to do it.
Yousuf Karsh is a photographer best know for his portraits of important and famous men and women of politics and Hollywood. He was born in December 23. 1908. When he was little he lived in a country that is now called Turkey. He went through persecution and deprivation before, on foot he fled with his family to Syria in 1922. After 2 years his father sent him to Canada to live with his uncle, who was also a photographer. He then later began to working with his uncle and learning the art and science of photography. He began to be an apprentice to John H. Garo a painter and portrait photographer. For a short while he also attended evening classes at art school. In 1931 he began his own studio with financial help from his uncle. While photographing actors from the Quebec little theatre, he met his wife Solange Gauthier. They married in 1939. Some of the notable work that Karsh has done is lots of portraits of many famous and important people. Some people are Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Queen Elizabeth II, and John F. Kennedy. These are just a few people out of the many people he has done portraits for. He works with artificial lighting that was taught to him by Garo. What he always tried to do is get to know his subjects before starting to take photos because it would put the subject at ease and the shoot would be more enjoyable for both of them. He wouldn't prepare anything for the shoot before hand like poses to use. He would just go along with anything, he often times let the subjects make suggestions on poses too. He would wait for the right moment of emotion being shown before taking the picture. What inspires me about his work is the lighting that is being used. It is not usually natural light but artificial light. I like how the light looks so simple but probably wasn't that simple. I also liked the black and white photographs because it look really professional and the emotion in some photos is cool too. What inspires me about his work is to get a photo of someone and have turn out like his. something simple but yet so fascinating at the same time. It inspires me to take a photo and have it come out like that. I also really liked how famous his work is and how he got so many notable portraits of people. What i like about this photo is how simple it is yet it is on of his most popular pictures. I like how there is emotion on his face and i also like the way his hands are positioned and the angle he is in. What i like about this picture is the lighting. I like how the picture makes him seem powerful. What I like about this photo is the story right before the picture was taken. It was when right before the photo was taken Yousuf had taken the cigar that Churchill had out of his mouth. Resources

What didn't work is trying to keep my dog to not move for a couple of seconds, i had to take many photos. I learned how there has to be something in the background to be blurred out. Also it is easier to take pictures when using a tripod when trying to keep still to not blur the whole picture.
What I learned is that when trying to get a larger F-stop, it is harder because you have to keep really still or else it just blurs out the whole picture. What worked is getting one object in the center and having a large depth of field, it was easier to get the picture. What didn't work is not getting enough background space to blur out.
